After serving in the East Asia Bureau of the State Department, he worked for several high-tech firms in Silicon Valley. After a stint as Senior Fellow for Asia at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, he returned to academia, teaching courses in technology and foreign policy at Princeton and Georgetown. He has a BA from Princeton, an MBA from Harvard, and a PhD from Princeton.
