funding of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies
FDD funding states that it receives funds from “a diverse group of individual philanthropists” that “does not accept any government funding.” (1) An investigative report in the American Conservative puts FDD's annual budget at close to $3 million. FDD counts on the support of 27 individual high-end donors including: Leonard Abramson of U.S. Healthcare: New York financier Michael Steinhardt: Edgar S. Bronfman Sr., patriarch of Seagrams and president of Jewish World Congress, along with his brother Charles Bronfman; and Lynne Schusterman, widow of Oklahoma oil executive Charles Schusterman. (4) In 2002, FDD received $250,000 each from Edgar Bronfman, Michael Steinhardt, and Bernard Marcus (founder of Home Depot). Other donors who each gave $100,000 included Leonard Abramson, Charles Bronfman, Lynn Schusterman, and Dalck Feith (father of Douglas Feith, current Undersecretary of Defense for Policy).
