Lynne Cheney, the wife of Vice President
Dick Cheney and former chair of
the National Endowment for the Humanities, is a hard-line conservative who works at
the American Enterprise Institute. Active for decades in various rightwing organizations
and administrations, Cheney’s specialty is education. Even before
President George W. Bush was elected some of Lynne Cheney’s influential friends were calling
for her appointment as secretary of Education.
Dr. Cheney has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Company since 1993.
She is an author and lecturer and has been a senior fellow of
the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research since 1993.
Prior to January 1993, she served as Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Dr. Cheney is also a director of American Express Funds.
