Mary-Jane Deeb
Dr. Mary-Jane Deeb became the Arab World Area Specialist at the Library of Congress in 1998, while continuing to teach part time on the faculty of the School of International Service at American University in Washington, DC. Before joining the Library of Congress she was the Editor of The Middle East Journal, Director of the Omani Program at The American University in Washington D.C., and Director of the Algeria Working Group at the Corporate Council on Africa. She has also taught at Georgetown University and at George Washington University.
Dr. Deeb holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the School of Advanced International Studies, the Johns Hopkins University, and a B.A. and M.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from the American University in Cairo. She has authored and edited several books and over 80 articles in her field of specialization. She is a frequent media commentator, and has appeared on the Lehrer News Hour, John McLaughlin’s “One on One,” CNN, ABC World News, and CBS Evening News, and has been quoted by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time Magazine, The Christian Science Monitor, The Los Angeles Times, and others.
In 2001, Dr. Deeb published her first mystery novel, Cocktails and Murder on the Potomac. She brings her international experience and her love of fine cooking to her latest mystery novel, Murder on the Riviera. Dr. Deeb and her husband reside in Potomac, Maryland.
