Somehow, Peter Chiarelli survives and Oilers coach Todd McLellan is the one left twisting in the wind. As Chara grabbed a basketball and spinning a few layups, general manager Peter Chiarelli surveyed the scene with fear. “I'm sitting there going, F---, Zee, don't twist your ankle,” he says. Then someone approached Chiarelli. It was Chris Mullin, a few years away from his Hall of Fame induction, working asÃâà...

Huge contracts signed by general manager Peter Chiarelli for McDavid, Leon Draisatl and Milan Lucic won't make it easier to put a good team in front of him either. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is also locked up for $6 million a year until 2020/21. On defense, the Oilers have $19.1 million tied up in four players forÃâà...

Showing former general manager Peter Chiarelli the door didn't hurt though. With all due respect, he built the Bruins' 2011 championship team that fell just short of repeating in 2013. But handing out lucrative contracts like candy to Krejci, Bergeron, Chara and Dennis Seidenberg, who's now with the NewÃâà...

Last offseason, I ranked every general manager. People thought Peter Chiarelli, at 17, was ranked too low. Perhaps now people will think he was ranked too high. Yes, Chiarelli won a Stanley Cup. But let's face it, that was a lockout ago. It's hard to argue Chiarelli has been anything but bad for the Oilers.

The pitchforks and torches are out. It's easy to question the abilities of Edmonton Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli. Imagine for a moment a hypothetical scenario, one in which Peter Chiarelli was never hired as the Edmonton Oilers' general manager. In this scenario, the relative histories of both Chiarelli and the Oilers are the same. Chiarelli made the same moves he would have made in Edmonton, but in a different city,Ãâà...

The idea that this club is showcasing an injured defenceman who's on a sweetheart contract for the next five years should get the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up. It's also not the craziest thing I've heard since Peter Chiarelli has become this club's general manager. Chiarelli's taken so many L'sÃâà...

There's a lot of talk about the roster, but also the futures of general manager Peter Chiarelli and head coach Todd McLellan. For just under 10 minutes, Edmonton Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli held court with the media about his team's performance, its plans for the looming NHL trade deadline and what to expect over the final quarter of the 2017-18 season. He took pains not to reveal too much. Mostly he succeeded.

The Boston Bruins have had some bad luck over the past few years, trading away key pieces. But what if Peter Chiarelli, GM from 2006-2015, was never in that position?
