The largest marine terminal operator in the US, SSA loads and unloads ships at ports from Seattle to New Zealand. The company handles a variety of cargo, including steel, coal, and cars. It also provides rail terminal services, warehousing, and shipment tracking. SSA's Tideworks Technology division offers administrative and operational software and technology services for terminal operators. Founded in the 1880s, SSA has been owned by the Smith and Hemingway families since 1949; CEO Jon Hemingway is the third generation of his family to head the company.
